When you accepted Jesus into your life, you entered into a relationship with a God who deeply loves you. This love isn’t based on what you do or don’t do — it’s based on who He is. Let’s explore what God’s love looks like, how it changes us, and how we can grow in our understanding of it.
Lesson Objective:
To help new believers understand the depth, nature, and power of God's love as revealed through Scripture and through Jesus Christ.
Key Verse:
Romans 5:8 (NIV)
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
1. God’s Love is Unconditional
- Scripture:
Jeremiah 31:3 (NIV)
"I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness."
- Explanation:
God doesn’t love us because we earn it. His love is not based on our performance. He loves us because He is love (1 John 4:8). His love has no limits.
- Reflection Question:
What does it mean to you that God’s love has no conditions?
2. God’s Love is Sacrificial
- Scripture:
John 3:16 (NIV)
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
- Explanation:
God proved His love by giving His most precious gift—His Son, Jesus. This was the ultimate act of love: Jesus died in our place so we could live.
- Reflection Question:
How does knowing Jesus died for you change how you see God’s love?
3. God’s Love is Personal
- Scripture:
Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV)
"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
- Explanation:
God knows you personally. You’re not just a number to Him. You are seen, known, and deeply valued.
- Reflection Question:
What do you think it means that God “knowed you together"?
4. God’s Love is Transformational
- Scripture:
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"
- Explanation:
When you receive God’s love, it changes you. You are made new. You are no longer defined by your past — you are a child of God.
- Reflection Question:
How has your life begun to change since receiving God’s love?
5. God’s Love is Faithful
- Scripture:
Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons… will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
- Explanation:
Nothing can separate you from God’s love. Even when you stumble, His love remains. He will never give up on you.
- Reflection Question:
What does it mean to you that nothing can separate you from God’s love?
Activity Suggestion:
Write a Love Letter from God
Imagine God is writing you a letter today. Based on what you’ve learned, what would He say to you? Take 10 minutes to write it down.
Prayer:
"Heavenly Father, thank You for Your amazing love. Thank You for loving me even when I didn’t know You. Help me to grow in understanding Your love and to live a life that reflects it. Teach me to trust Your heart every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
Memory Verse:
1 John 4:19 (NIV)
"We love because he first loved us."
